West was born in Jamaica Plain, Mass. in 1898. He attended Pennsylvania State College before serving in the United States army, 1918-1919. He received his A.B. degree from Dartmouth College in 1922 and his A.M. degree from Dartmouth College in 1924, after working as an Instructor of English at the college. Ilse Bischoff, b. 1901; d. 1990, Illustrator, painter, collector. Birthdate also cited as 1903. Full name Ilse Marthe Bischoff. Born in New York City, Bischoff studied at the Art Students League and in Europe. Later, she worked as an illustrator of childrens' books and collected German porcelain.
